The graph shown below has distinct edge weights and MST of weight 40 and MST contain edges
{(A, C), (B, C), (B, E), (E, F), (D, F)}. The minimum possible sum of weights of all 8 edges of this graph is _____.
Correct answer is '77'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
The graph shown below has distinct edge weights and MST of weight 40 ...
By using principle of Kruskals algorithm, to construct MST, we have to include edges in increasing order of their weights.
Step 1: DE > EF and DE > DF
∴ Minimum possible value of DE = 9 but graph has distinct edge weight so DE = 10.
Step 2: AB > AC and AB > BC
∴ Minimum possible value of AB = 10 [But we have DE = 10,
So, take AB = 11]
Step 3: DC > BC, DC > BE
Minimum possible value of DC = 16
∴ Sum of weights of all edges
= 9 + 2 + 15 + 8 + 6 + 16 + 10 = 77
